Steven Schindler Bio

FROM HERE TO REALITY is Steven Schindler's third novel, and the first published by a major publishing house (Simon and Schuster/Pocket Books).  His first novel, SEWER BALLS was published through his own imprint, The Elevated Press, so that his first fiction wouldn't wind up like most debuts; at the bottom of a slush pile for months or years.  SEWER BALLS was soon deemed "probably the best novel produced by the small presses in 1999" by Small Press Review, receiving much media attention including a two-part feature story on NY1 TV News and substantial national exposure.

Schindler decided to publish his next novel, FROM THE BLOCK, through The Elevated Press as well. That decision led to its winning the Best Fiction Award at the 2003 DIY National Book Festival.

Born and raised in the Bronx, his first two novels are artfully gritty portrayals of the characters, places and events that shaped his early life in the streets, schools, and hangouts of New York City.

Steve majored in film and theatre and graduated from Hunter College in NYC. He was soon  working in SoHo with ground-breaking video documentarians during the early days of "underground" video,  which ultimately led him into television news, documentary, and magazine programming.

His television career spans  over twenty years, as an award winning television  writer and producer of news, reality, entertainment, sports, and promotion. Awards include  4 Chicago Emmy Awards.

Television credits include The Who's Farewell Tour;   Israel and the Palestinians-Will Reason Prevail?;     America's Most Wanted;    A Day in the Lives of Melrose Place    and  The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
